Analytical and bioanalytical screening of WWTP effluents for natural and synthetic steroids with endocrine disrupting effects
Your tasks:
The objectives of the Master project are 1) to better understand wastewater treatment effluents as a possible source of natural and synthetic hormones depending on regions of Europe, number of inhabitants and treatment technology and 2) to compare chemical analysis with receptor-basedin vitro
bioassays to assess endocrine disruption. In total 57 European effluents that have been already sampled should be analysed for a set of about 30 major steroid compounds after derivatisation using LC-HRMS and for estrogen-, androgen, progestagen- and glucocorticoid receptor-mediated effects. A major focus will be on the multivariate analysis of these data.
Your profile:
Bachelor in (Analytical or Enivironmental) Chemistry, Ecotoxicology, Toxicology, Environmental Sciences or related subjects. Basic experience either in chemical analysis of organic micropollutants or biotesting, enthusiasm for environmental researchWe offer:
- A close and good care
- Exciting insights into the work of a leading institute
- Excellent technical facilities which are without parallel
- Work in inter-disciplinary, multinational teams
