- Preparation, execution, analyzing and reporting of our image collection campaigns
- Support of our Operations team for satellite tasking
- Manage satellite collections

GIS Specialist

Earth Observation Support Specialist (M/F/D)
The position is based in Munich, Germany and reports to the Director Customer Support and Development, from November 2022 to appr. March 2024, with the possibility of an extension.
Your main tasks and responsibilities include:
- Provide and support all Service Portfolio Orders, pre and post sales and problem handling
- Writing quotations, offers and support the team with proposals
- Work closely with the various departments and providers (US)
- Data entry in a tailor-made customer databases and portals (European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and/or ESA’s Copernicus Data Warehouse)
- Order desk support
- Use of GIS software such as ArcGIS , QGis, GafMap/ maintaining GIS projects
- Communication with European customers and stakholders mainly via email and on the phone
- General administration duties in support of work carried out (using tailor-made SAP database)
- Quality assessment and cloud cover control of collected satellite images
- Emergency Order desk for EMSA/Copernicus on the weekends from time to time
Your skills and profiles include:
- Confidence when dealing with a range of different customers over the phone, via email and face to face
- Basic/Good Knowledge of GIS software (ArcView/ArcGIS/QGIS)
- Very good command of English language (good knowledge of German is a plus)
- Good working knowledge of the MS Office Suite
- Master/ Bachelor Degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, Geomedia, Cartography, GIS or related fields is required
- Able to work independently, reliable and accurate and as a motivated team player
- Problem analysis / solving skills, proactive, adaptable and flexible
- EU Residency/Nationality limited to NATO, European Union, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Switzerland

We offer work in the highly exciting field of satellite-based Earth Observation, for this role we encourage applicants in the early stages of their career and who are keen on expanding their knowledge and skillsets to submit their application.
European Space Imaging is Europe’s most successful provider of global high resolution satellite imagery based in Munich, Germany. Since its establishment in 2002, we have consistently shown extraordinary growth and is now selling its satellite image products to customers in Europe and North Africa. Our European technology partners are the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and GAF AG. Our key clients include the European Space Agency, the European Union Satellite Centre and European Maritime Safety Agency.
Please note that this is not a fully remote position, some presence in the office in Munich will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and document geospatial software by developing solutions, documentation, flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, and clean code
- Support the development team in optimizing workflows throughout the company
- Cooperate with partners on external software development tasks
- Maintain, operate and update preexisting software solutions
- Develop custom solutions for core clients
REQUIREMENTS OR MUST-HAVE
- Hands-on Python experience in geospatial software development projects
- Good knowledge of opensource geospatial libraries for Python, such as gdal/ogr, geopandas, shapely, rasterio, pyqgis
- Comfortable working with a *nix shell
- Comfortable with version control (Git)
- A university degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering/GIS or similar, or equivalent practical job experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication, comprehension and presentation skills, as well as intercultural competence
- Comfortable communicating with colleagues in English
- Nationality limited to EU member country, NATO member country, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Switzerland
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS OR NICE-TO-HAVES
- Previous exposure to Java
- Previous experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS
- Hands-on experience working with OGC Standard APIs
- Basic devops skills
- JavaScript, CSS and HTML skills, in particular for frontend web map applications
- Knowledge in the field of satellite remote sensing would be a definite plus
- German on B1 level or higher is a plus but not required
