REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Coach Service Attendant for the Transit Division.

General Description

:
This is semi-skilled work in the general maintenance and servicing of county buses.
Work involves performing routine servicing of county buses. Duties include cleaning and washing buses, checking, and replenishing fuel and fluid levels and driving buses through the service facility. Work is performed in accordance with established routines and is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion.

Coach Service Attendant wage increases are determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement for ATU 1267. Increases and starting hourly pay are as follows.

1st Year: $13.47
2nd Year: $13.87
3rd Year: $14.29
4th Year: $14.72
5th Year: $15.16
6th Year: $15.61
Thereafter Step: $23.32

Necessary Requirements


:
Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 operation as assigned (days, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays).
Ability to report to multiple work locations as needed.
Special Certifications and Licenses

:
Possession of valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake and Passenger Transport Endorsement, or valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit three (3) weeks prior to start date

Preferences

:
Six (6) months commercial cleaning experience

Upon selection, candidates must successfully complete pre-employment screening (criminal background check, physical, employment verification, and any other Transit Division requirements).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Sweeps, mops and washes bus interiors including floors, windows, and seats; collects and disposes of trash; washes exterior of buses.
Takes odometer readings; changes oil, transmission and other fluids, and refuels buses.
Assists in the maintenance of transit buildings and grounds.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


:
Some knowledge of the basic characteristics of automotive equipment.
Ability to perform automotive servicing and maintenance procedures.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Skill in the use of automotive servicing equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Work is performed primarily outdoors, in all weather conditions and will require exposure to soaps and various cleaning agents.
May be required to provide basic hand tools such as pliers and screwdrivers necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
