Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) – The Research University in the Helmholtz Association creates and imparts knowledge for the society and the environment. It is our goal to make significant contributions to mastering the global challenges of mankind in the fields of energy, mobility, and information. For this, about 9,800 employees of KIT cooperate in a broad range of disciplines in research, academic education, and innovation.

The Division II – Informatics, Economics, and Society, Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS), KIT Department of Economics and Management, offers for the earliest possible date a

Tenure-Track Professorship (W1) "Transformative Energy System Analysis"

We are looking for an internationally recognized personality in an early phase of their academic career with potential for outstanding research work in the field of system analytical energy research. Transformative energy system analysis, in particular heat transition, aims to research factors influencing the transformation to a climate-friendly energy supply. These primarily include economic incentive structures, regulatory framework conditions, socio-technical and techno-economic interrelationships as well as acceptance by relevant stakeholders in this field.

The tenure-track-professorship (W1) “Transformative Energy System Analysis" is part of one of the four interdisciplinary real-world laboratories in which KIT focuses on transformative research as an interface to society. In each of the real-world labs, one professorship from the humanities, social sciences or economics and one from the technical and natural sciences work together intensively. With the real-world-lab professorships, KIT is pursuing a unique interdisciplinary approach. The program is part of the application under the guiding theme of “Living the change", with which KIT was successful in the Excellence Strategy. The cooperation in the real-world laboratory enables the conception and implementation of real-world experiments to generate transformative knowledge. The tenure-track-professorship (W1) “Transformative Energy System Analysis" deals with the economic and social science side of a tandem in which the decentralized energy transition, with a focus on heat supply, is researched in cooperation with systems engineering research and transformation-oriented systems analysis.

The tenure-track professorship (W1) “Transformative Energy System Analysis" is to be located in the Helmholtz research task at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) to lead its research group for Transformative Energy System Analysis. Participation in large-scale research in the KIT program Energy System Design (ESD) is expected, as is active involvement in the KIT Energy Center.

Through teaching, you will strengthen the offering of the KIT-Department of Economics and Management by active participation in the basic and specialization program in the field of Energy Economics of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Business and Economics.
