POSITION SUMMARY

The Category Manager is responsible for his/her unique set of contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) based in Germany and reports to the Category Lead of Global External Supply(GES).

This person will be responsible for identifying, developing and contracting with new CMOs to meet the requirements of the business and manufacturing network. Resulting from this, the Category Manager community in GES will be responsible for developing the GES Drug Product sourcing strategies, working closely together with the Global Network Strategy team and other internal stakeholders.

He/She will be responsible for day-to-day performance management of CMO by providing on-the-ground support to ensure launch of a brand new product from the contractor.

He/She will lead Virtual Operating Teams(VPTs) and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues from Supply Planning, Quality Assurance and Technical Project Management to drive overall performance of CMOs in terms of quality, service level and cost. He/She will also ensure appropriate business continuity plans are in place for the key CMOs/critical products.

He/she will be responsible for establishing and tracking of operational metrics, financial metrics, for CMOs that are fully aligned with the GES balanced scorecard metrics on quality, supply and cost.

He/She will be responsible for contract/price negotiations, identifying and implementing cost improvement projects (CIPs), problem solving and developing commercial solutions.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Category Manager has overall responsibility for the operational performance of the CMOs allocated to him/her and he/she will do that by leading Virtual Operating Teams(VPTs) and periodic Business Review Meetings(BRMs).

He/She is responsible for negotiating, executing supply contracts with existing and new CMOs and is responsible for ensuring that CMOs under his/her responsibility comply with all commercial, legal and operational aspects of the contracts with Zoetis.

He/She, together with VPT, sets performance objectives (quality, cost, service levels and EHS) for the CMOs and proactively monitors and conducts performance reviews of CMOs against these objectives to ensure continuous improvement.

He/She will support internal customers in the resolution of any CMO related to quality or service issues in compliance with relevant Zoetis policies/guidelines.

He/She will assess the risk and develop and implement business continuity plans to secure supply of Zoetis' products.
He/She will collaborate with CMOs and internal stakeholders to understand the cost structure at the CMO, proactively identify and implement cost reduction opportunities

He/She will be the first point of contact for dispute resolution between Zoetis and the CMOs where an incidence of non-conformance with the contract has arisen, particularly where financial penalties are likely to accrue

He/She will engage in the budgeting process and financial forecasting(LE) process and will proactively manage operations to minimize variances to budget.

He/She will lead cross functional teams to agree on supplier selections based on appropriate decision criteria and guidelines set by the GES Leadership Team

  • EHS Team for managing EHS risk with CMOs
  • Legal for contract execution and dispute resolution (if any)
  • Commercial Organization for finding manufacturing solutions to market opportunities

External:
  • Commercial relationship with the CMO

RESOURCES MANAGED

Financial Accountability
Support the annual financial forecast and reconciliation, budgeting cycle, ensuring all actual volumes and forecasts are up-to-date and accurate.
Cost improvement, Adherence to budget.
Supervision
Reports into the Category Lead based in Dublin
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Indicate the formal education, certification or license required and/or preferred. Include the minimum number of years of relevant experience required for the position (where legally permissible).

 
  • Bachelor / Master’s degree in science, engineering or business. MBA desirable
  • Relevant advanced degree or training in supply chain, procurement and/or contract negotiation (preferred experience)
  • 5 years of relevant experience in procurement, external supply, manufacturing or operations role, Pharma/Animal Health industry
