The position is offered for a period of 2 years. The starting date is 1st july 2024. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100 %).

The position is funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant “Sensation and Inferences in Perception, Metacognition and Action (SENCES)”. In SENCES, we investigate how the brain treats own, inferred signals compared to sensory signals in different types of sensory gaps, such as the blind-spot, amodal completion and pathological scotomata. The project combines multiple methods such as psychophysics, computational modelling, EEG and clinical work with patients.

Tasks:

  • scientific services in project SENCES
  • implementation of eye tracking studies on the control of eye movements by inferred information or the contribution of different photoreceptor types to perceptual inferences
  • presentation of results at scientific conferences and in scientific journals
  • contribution to computational modelling of the overal project’s results
The third-party funded project offers the opportunity for project-related scientific work. A supervision agreement can be used to ensure that the results obtained are available for one's own scientific qualification outside of working hours. The time limit is not based on § 2 Para. 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in Psychology, Biology, Computer Science, Neuroscience or similar
  • PhD in a related field
  • Experience with the measurement of perception during eye movements or the isolation of photoreceptors using 4-channel displays, documented by thematically relevant publications in scientific journals
