Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter

Within the Casualty Underwriting Department, we offer a dynamic, progressive, and collaborative work environment with a diverse set of clients (multinational, local clients with an international or entirely local scope). We are responsible for a book value in excess of EUR 1.5 billion in premiums and deal with all casualty classes on both a proportional and non-proportional basis across all of our markets (UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the Nordics). In addition, we cooperate closely with our claims team in London as well as with our primary insurance company, Great Lakes SE, to provide co-insurance solutions for our clients.

We are looking to strengthen our team with a highly motivated and experienced senior underwriter, who is eager to challenge and drive forwards our underwriting team and our overall business proposition. Casualty is a strong contributor towards our business division’s “Ambition 2025” initiative and we strive to grow our portfolio with a clear focus on sustainable profitability in these technically highly challenging markets.

This position is part of the extended leadership team and hence characterised by a diverse set of responsibilities for identifying and advancing topics and opportunities together with the team.

Your job

• Acquiring and/or renewing, structuring, and pricing casualty treaty reinsurance business while further developing underwriting standards
• Driving business development together with client management and fostering a business development mindset within the underwriting team 
• Expanding existing client relationships as well as identifying and developing new business potential
• Taking our good monitoring capabilities to yet another level
• Ensuring quality in underwriting and pricing while increasing process efficiency
• Opinion leadership with respect to external stakeholders as well as internally 
• Proactively supporting management in developing and executing the casualty underwriting strategy as well as the further development of the overall team

Your profile

• In-depth knowledge and experience in underwriting casualty treaty business; an actuarial or legal background would be an advantage
• Client and solution-oriented mindset as well as the ability to identify clients’ needs and transform these into viable concepts and profitable business
• Team player capable of leading a team and demonstrating business acumen
• Enthusiasm and ability to drive business projects, assume responsibility, and provide support, guidance, inspiration, and leadership to the team
• Strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skillset
• Ability to communicate transparently and empower others through effective knowledge sharing
• Very good negotiating skills and assertiveness, particularly when dealing with brokers
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel; Power BI and data analytics tools would be an advantage
• Reliability, outstanding commitment, and willingness to travel 
• Fluent in English (written and spoken);other languages spoken in our markets would be beneficial
