Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. The Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) is part of IOM’s International Cooperation and Partnership Department (ICP) and is responsible for providing migration stakeholders with a better understanding of global migration data. GMDAC is involved in a variety of tasks including knowledge management, capacity building, data collection and analysis. GMDAC manages the Global Migration Data Portal (Portal), which serves as a unique access point to timely, comprehensive migration statistics and reliable information about global migration data. The Portal aims to help policy makers, national statistics officers, journalists and the general public navigate the increasingly complex landscape of international migration data, currently scattered across different organisations and agencies.

Context:
The Intern will work under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director of GMDAC in cooperation with other colleagues on the S&C Unit and GMDAC team.

Core Functions / Responsibilities: The intern will have the following duties and responsibilities: The audio-visual support intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and editorial support to the production of videos and audio content highlighting to the public and media outlets the organization’s latest news, publications, data related content, and achievement for the dissemination on IOM social media channels.
  • Assist with researching and synthesizing migration and migration data information to
generate internal or external communication materials / products / outputs.
  • Support with the planning, coordination and communication for presentations and
events on migration data, including report launches, for GMDAC.
  • Assisting in creating or updating PowerPoint presentations for the Director of
GMDAC or other GMDAC staff.
  • Assist as needed with social media outreach (i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook),
production of communication outputs and other communication-related ad-hoc
requests.
  • Provide general support to the S&C Unit and GMDAC team and perform any other
duties that may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education University degree in Economics, Statistics, International Relations, Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Affairs or any related discipline. Please refer to the “other” section for more information about eligibility criteria.

Experience
  • Demonstrated interest in migration data analysis and statistics;
  • Strong computer literacy;
  • Ability to understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to deadlines;
  • Practical experience in multitasking, prioritizing and working independently;

Skills
  • Fluency in video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effect and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Proven ability to produce work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines Languages
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; working knowledge of German or IOM languages (French, Spanish) is an asset.

Other Applicants must be between 20 and 36 years of age to be eligible to apply for an internship. Applicants to IOM internships must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in 4.1(a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Any offer made to the candidate in relation to this vacancy notice is subject to funding confirmation.
  • Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
