The newly established function, Yara Farming Solutions, will lead the transformation towards more sustainable and efficient food production, by innovating our offering and the way we work. The unit is responsible for R D and agronomic competence within the company. Its objective is to develop and to strengthen Yara& s knowledge regarding Crops, Agronomy, and Sustainable Agriculture. It also leads the agronomic input and requirements regarding the development of new and innovative digital products and tools. It has a specialised team on agri-environmental modelling and analytics fostering a data driven innovative research environment. About the Role Yara is driven by a strong scientific and innovative spirit in its products and solutions. We place high importance on cutting-edge research focussing on developing solution paradigms suitable for future farming. This role is based within the Agronomic Analytics and Modelling group of Yara Agronomy R D unit which mainly focusses on the application of modelling techniques including Machine Learning/ AI to address research questions of interest. The role shall focus on developing agronomic models on nutrient dynamics, crop growth and yield, environmental risk and associated dimensions of sustainable agriculture. We are looking for a motivated, dedicated, and innovative individual with an interest in using statistical and biophysical process models for forecasting. The role will complement the existing sub-group that focusses on the use of mechanistic / process modelling for predictive analysis. The position is permanent and can be based flexibly, the base team is in Duelmen, Germany. The position shall report to VP Agronomic Analytics and Modelling. Close collaboration with other teams within Yara R D and other units will be vital for success in this role. Your Responsibilities Conceptualise and implement models (strong focus on using statistical methods e.g. Bayesian statistics) on thematic areas of crop and nutrient management, crop quality and yield, GHG emissions from agriculture and allied topics. Identify and implement potential opportunities to interlink different modelling paradigms - mechanistic, machine learning and AI based models with statistical / empirical approaches Flexibly support the group with statistical analysis / methodologies wherever applicable Maintain updated knowledge on state-of-the-art in modelling techniques Create visual interpretations of results and communicate project outcomes to stakeholders in a comprehensible way Your Profile Masters degree in Agriculture / Environmental Science / Mathematics / Biostatistics, Doctor degree optional Sound understanding of the concepts of statistical modelling e.g. linear and logistic regression modelling, Bayesian modelling, linear mixed modelling Knowledge of model validation techniques and application Proven experience in data analysis and model development Self-motivated towards learning and upskilling Good programming skills in Python and/or R Familiarity with version control systems e.g. GitHub Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex topics / results to stakeholders with non-technical backgrounds Good sense of team work and flexibility with work timings (ability to work with global teams) Good cross-cultural skills, deep respect for different cultures, gender and diversity. Fluency in English, knowledge of additional language such as German is preferable.
